Let it Grow - proof of concept
DescriptionLet it Grow is a stand-alone mobile product proof of concept that encourages gardeners at all stages of experience and expertise to connect and learn together.
Defining The Problem
It's often challenging for aspiring gardeners to get the information they need to feel confident about establishing and maintaining a garden. |
Approach
Identify Design Requirements
For this project, I conducted competitive analysis and brief interviews with friends and family to understand how they manage their gardening needs and how they communicate and learn about gardening.

User Research Goals
- To understand what resources people are relying on to find out information about how to establish and maintain their gardens.
- How people keep track of what they learn through trial and error or how they integrate those learnings in their next year’s approach.
- To find out how people are sharing knowledge about their gardens or gardening goals.
Data Collection
Both qualitative and quantitative studies were conducted to gain insight on the type of information to include as design requirements along with the organization of that information

Prototype & Usability Study
A total of four participants were interviewed using Zoom for a remote usability study. The goal of the study was to understand user's expectations and to uncover concerns or issues. The tasks are designed to explore the basic functionality of the application along with navigational components that surfaced in previous research.

What I learned
This project was completed within a 7 week time frame which did not allow for in depth Discovery and Analysis. Research was minimal and took a guerrilla approach which was not ideal for this type of project. Ideally I would have liked to have observed aspiring and expert gardeners in the Spring when people are in the right mind set.
